Dr. Anthony Oliver - The President

We’ve been Entrusted to Equip ‘the Called’

Welcome to the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology (CGST)!

The Caribbean Graduate School of Theology (CGST) is the premier institution for the equipping of leaders, called by God to serve the people of the Caribbean and beyond! CGST has a long and rich tradition of educating and training students for strategic positions in faith-based and secular organizations within the Caribbean. Our team of erudite lecturers has the knowledge and expertise to guide you in realizing your full potential.

The Lord has been good to us and we are grateful. The year 2020 will be recorded as one of the most eventful in modern history. We have experienced a deadly pandemic which concurrently brought great grief and opportunities for success! It is indeed an exciting time. Who would have thought that it would have also been the year that CGST would have appointed its first female president!

Like other educational institutions, CGST, is making changes in response to the needs of the changing global community. Be assured however, that we remain committed to working with you towards achieving your educational and spiritual goals. We view students as our priority, ensuring that they are a part of an active learning community that offers a rewarding academic experience and community engagement. Our social activities cater to the development of your leadership and networking skills and will lead to the development of your emotional intelligence.

Our programmes and courses are designed to increase your knowledge and the three dominant features of theological underpinning, theoretical knowledge, and hands-on experience. Our courses are designed to lead you toward the development of a Christian worldview, academic excellence, contextual relevance and spiritual sensitivity. Students are attracted to CGST’s care and attention to academic excellence, our reputation of high-class instruction and the positive evaluations received from employers and members of our alumni. The majority of our lecturers who influence those entrusted to us hold terminal degrees within their fields. They are committed to excellence and provide mentorship beyond the classrooms.

The Caribbean Graduate School of Theology is committed to quality graduate education. In addition to accreditation from local and international professional bodies, we have implemented systems to ensure and maintain high academic standards. Our curricula are designed with the cultural context in view. This exposure ensures relevance and enables graduates to be better equipped to serve in the region.

For more than thirty years, the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology has equipped over 700 graduates. Most of our graduates have assumed leadership positions within the educational, financial, legal, health and a variety of Christian ministries. Although most of our alumni reside in Jamaica, others can be found throughout the Caribbean, North America and Europe. CGST prepares students to confront a growing intellectual culture, hostile to issues of faith; however our graduates are respected and obtain marketable opportunities in their areas of expertise. We have earned and maintained the reputation of being one of the most affordable graduate-level educational institutions in the Caribbean.

When asked in an exit-interview if they would recommend their programme of study to others, 83% of the graduates answered in the affirmative. They were confident that “the programme met their expectations and enhanced their personal and spiritual development.”

Through our internationally-recognised and accredited graduate programmes, CGST is committed to meeting the social and professional demand for higher education at the graduate level in Jamaica and the Caribbean region.  We have begun to explore partnerships with internationally renowned institutions to offer cutting-edge world-class graduate programmes. CGST is contributing to national and regional development by enhancing the professional growth and careers of our citizens, by developing human resources in various fields, and by offering quality graduate programmes that can be exploited both locally and globally.

Understanding the constraints of the busy, working professional, CGST is focused on creating opportunities for workers in the public and private sectors to obtain graduate degrees on schedules that minimise disruption of work and personal pursuits. The current programme offerings are each delivered online during the evenings by highly experienced and qualified practitioners within a cohort class structure.  Programme lengths vary between 24 and 36 months, and during this period, our students gain a wide range of new skills and sharpen their analytical abilities by linking their coursework activities with carefully selected professional experiences. Our approach results in a challenging, stimulating learning experience that provides for maximum return on time and resources invested.

As we welcome our new students to this illustrious institution, we invite them to explore the reason for CGST being the premiere institution in the Caribbean for equipping graduate students within the fields of Psychology and Theology. We are happy that you have made this your “School of Choice”. We thank you for the confidence that you have placed in us as we seek through God to prepare you to fulfill your God-ordained purpose. Our tagline.. “Equipping the Called”, represents our commitment to your successful programme completion. We believe that we have been uniquely selected by God to serve you at such a time as this!

Our returning students know that we are a family. We are interested and care deeply for each of our students. As we prepare to transform and revolutionize the way we do business, we ask you to journey with us, playing your part in the transformation process. Together we will continue to do exploits for God!

To our Administrative, academic and support staff, we welcome you to another year of giving, serving and living. I understand well the sacrifices that you have made to ensure that our students will receive the resources they need to excel.

Members of our alumni have continued to partner with us. Our donors, Board of Governors and other stakeholders tangibly provide the resources needed to fulfill our mandate. I ask that we together make CGST the graduate ‘school of choice’ for Caribbean Christians and other believers with a desire to positively transform the church and society to the glory of God.
