Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS)

The Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) is designed for applicants who have a solid undergraduate background in theology and are desirous of being prepared academically to teach at the undergraduate level, for scholarly writing and/or doctoral studies. Students will be required to complete between fifteen (15) to twenty (20) courses depending on their theological emphasis.

Students without a theological background will be required to complete prerequisite courses as needed. 

Prerequisites

Pre-requisite courses are not for credit and are compulsory for students entering the programme without a first degree in theology or a similar discipline. This masters degree falls under the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.

Degree Awarded: Master of Arts (M.A.)
Duration of Course: 2 to 2 1/2 years

Basic Entry Requirements:

We require a first degree (honours degree with a GPA of 2.7 or higher) from an accredited University or College. Students to be interviewed by the head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.

Our graduates are prepared to work professionally as pastors, lecturers, teachers as well as operate as leaders of opinion. They are also equipped for advanced training in Theological education at the highest level with a critical awareness of the theological, social, and political issues and trends of the day, especially in the Caribbean context.

As pastors, our graduates are empowered to communicate effectively with those whose worldview differs from the biblical perspective, especially regarding one’s understanding of the person and work of Jesus Christ and the meaning of God’s truth in today’s world. Finally, our graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to be effective servant ministers in the Church and community.
